2/17/2024 0 Comments Keyboard maestro macbook disableVoilà! I no longer have to manually turn WiFi off to take advantage of lightning fast Ethernet speeds when I’m plugged into my BT Infinity 2 router over the Gigabit Ethernet, and I no longer have to remember to enable WiFi when I unplug. So I set up a Volume mounted trigger on “Media” and this executed the following shell script, taken straight from Terpstra’s article:Īnd I set up a corresponding shell script trigger for when “Media” is unmounted as follows: Sometimes I might disconnect my backup drive, but whenever I’m “docked”, my media drive entitled amazingly enough, “Media” is always connected. Whenever I plug in the USB extender, my media and backup drives become available. Well, what does a volume mount have to do with an ethernet cable connection? I only “dock” my MacBook to a USB extender, power and Ethernet. I remembered that Keyboard Maestro recently added functionality to allow the triggering of a script when a volume was mounted or unmounted. so how did I do it?īrett Terpstra recently posted a tip on how to turn a Mac’s WiFi on and off from the shell. I’m finding that since the keys overlap I can’t create separate macros just for the keypad. My idea was to setup the separate keypad as trigger keys for Keyboard Maestro and not use my main keyboard. I also have a separate USB numerical keypad as well. I have the Apple wired keyboard with number pad. Just remember: If you want to make changes, use the Editor. Hi - I’m doing some initial testing with Keyboard Maestro - Macbook Pro OSX Sierra. By using these six components together, you can dramatically enhance your Mac experience. When I disconnect the Ethernet cable, WiFi is enabled again. Keyboard Maestro is easy to use once you understand the way the Editor and Engine, Macro Groups and Macros, Triggers and Actions work together. Combined, these Macros allow me to do everything on my Mac with a keyboard, aside from drag-and-drop. I’ve also paired this with the Shortcat app. Scroll up or down: command + option + up/down arrow keys. When I connect an Ethernet cable to my MacBook, WiFi is automatically disabled. Right-click: command + option + control + return.

Which where be getting the info they were speaking about.ġ) that's really surprising. I hadn't really looked into it in a while. This has forced me to read a lot more about the M1 chip and the RAM. You can see that from the bottom Data Set - compared to the middle data sets. The FM benchmarking also shows that people with the exact same M1 Laptop from Apple - with the exact same RAM - are getting different results. The M1 chip is performing similarly with 8gb or 16gb of RAM - and on PAR with the i7-10750H (in the sample sets abobe) which is a similar performance to the i9-9880H. It's basically saying the M1 chip with 16gb RAM is ON PAR with the i9-9880H.Īnd once again I point to the evidence of the Football Manager Benchmark Thread carried out by everyday forum users. The remark that it's ON PAR has nothing to do with the RAM. My big question is - did they test this with 2019 16-inch Core i9 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM? It's on PAR with the i9-9880H processor - which is on PAR with the i7-10875H by the way. This is down to the processor - not the RAM. Just to add to the last paragraph in the Quote - 8gb is plenty for most PC users or Mac Users - 16gb is plenty for MOST people.īut for people like me editing photos and videos over 8-12 hour periods in a single sitting of the computer - it doesn't cut the mustard.ġ6GB MacBook Pro was able to complete it in 5 minutes and 59 seconds, a time on par with the 2019 16-inch Core i9 MacBook Pro with 32GB RAM. Sorry - but you really don't understand the purpose of RAM - hope this clears it up for you. You know nothing of me - I'm a graphic designer, have been for over 20 years, and I need more RAM than 16gb to run the Adobe Suite and to load my 5gb images in Photoshop. but then again, if you’re someone who does this a lot, you might not want to buy one an M1 Mac right now.The mid-range and high-end models that will undoubtedly offer more RAM options and more processor power are undoubtedly coming next year.īut if you combine the efficiency of the unified memory architecture with the speed of SSD storage, and consider most everyday use cases, I’m pretty sure that most regular users could get by with 8GB of unified memory-or, if you want to be absolutely sure, upgrade that to 16GB. If you’re someone who does this a lot, you probably want more memory. What would cause your Mac to run out of physical memory? If you leave an awful lot of apps open at once, or if your browser has hundreds of tabs open, or if you’re using an app that loads a very large file (like, say, a Photoshop file) into memory. Yes, when a Mac runs out of physical memory, it will page the contents of memory to disk-and even super-fast SSDs are slower than main memory! Though the speed differences are a lot less than back when we used slow spinning disk drives. Sure, a lot of people feel they need it-but do they, really? I'm fully hooked into iPhone though, I've told myself I can quit whenever I want and go back to android but like you say, they "just work"īut it’s also worth considering just how squishy the need for more memory can be when you poke at it. I know what you mean, I just feel lie i'm too old to learn a new OS Just wanted to balance up the opinions here but I'd rather pay a little (or a lot) more for something I know is a work of art (sorry couldn't help myself!). I can see it from other people's perspectives, they are expensive compared to other brands and what they can do is comparable etc. The build quality and reliability is IMO second to none, plus the technical and customer support from Apple (but you would expect that given the price of their products). I used to buy Windows laptops but seemed to have no end of problems with them, at best they seemed to last a couple of years, I had a couple of Acer's, a Dell & a Toshiba, eventually I decided to take the hit and get a MacBook, I've never looked back since. I've just purchased the new MacBook Air with the M1 processor, it's replacing an older MacBook Pro (2016) which in turn was a replacement for an even older MacBook Pro (2012 - which I'm still using to this day to WFH). 2/16/2024 0 Comments Ordering ups envelopesSome other places featuring her business writing include JobHero, LoveToKnow, PocketSense, Chron and. Bitwig is an excellent DAW and includes a small assortment of MPE sounds. * FxPansion’s Cypher2 and Strobe2 * Bitwig 8-Track. Most of my (Roger’s) videos were created using these sounds. * Apple’s Logic or MalnStage with my (Roger's) LinnStrument-optimized sounds file, which can be downloaded from the "Apple" entry in the list of MPE synths below. Click the link at left to download it and a growing collection of LinnStrument-optimzed MPE sounds for it. This the new official synth for LinnStrument, is free, open source, extremely versatile, and works on Mac, Windows and Linux. (See "What is MPE?" at left.) A long list of current MPE synths appears below on this page, but here are the best current choices for MPE synths that also include good MPE preset sounds and therefore provide immediate gratification: For Mac, Windows or Linux computers: * Surge XT. To overcome all of the above limitations and to get sounds immediately that realize LinnStrument potential of polyphonic 3D control (“5D” in Roli-speak), you’ll need a synth that is compatible with MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), and has MPE-compatible preset sounds that respond to all 3 of LinnStrument’s continuous dimensions of control, polyphonically. How to play sounds NOW that fully realize LinnStrument’s potential To see a list of such synths, read the next section. The best solution for all of the above limitations is to use a synth that is MPE-compatible, and which has preset sounds that are optimized for LinnStrument's 5 types of touch control (pressure, pitch slides, Y-axis, note on, and note off). To learn about MPE, read "What is MPE?" at left. Therefore, when playing two or more simultaneous notes, each note sends its own unique Pitch Bend and Control Change 74 information, permitting polyphonic pitch slides, polyphonic Y-axis, and polyphonic finger pressure. To overcome this 4th limitation, you must use a synth that is compatible with the new MPE standard, in which each note is sent over a unique MIDI channel. The same limitation applies to Control Change messages including Control Change 74 that is used for LinnStrument's Y-axis control. This is because MIDI requires that the Pitch Bend message must apply to all notes that are playing. You'll also notice one more limitation of the piano-optimized preset sounds of such common one-channel synths: 4) Polyphonic pitch slides or polyphonic Y-axis movements aren’t possible. For example, Audio Modeling's wind and bowed-string software instruments (see "For expressive bowed strings and winds" below) are all one-channel, monophonic instruments whose sounds are optimized for LinnStrument's pressure, long pitch slides and Y-axis. To get around these limitations, you'll need to either create your own sounds in your synth (see "Creating Sounds" at left), or use a synth that has presets optimized for LinnStrument's pressure, Y-axis and long pitch slides. This is because these piano-optimized sounds are expected a MIDI piano keyboard's bend wheel, which isn't very useful for bending more than 2 semitones. 3) Left/right pitch slides will be limited to 2 semitones. This is because MIDI piano keyboards don't have the ability to send Y-axis finger movements. 2) They don't respond to LinnStrument's Y-axis (forward/backward) control. If they do respond to pressure control, they are expecting the Aftertouch signal of MIDI piano keyboards, which is only sent after the key is fully pressed, so at best finger pressure is used to add a modulation or filter effect to a note that is already playing. When playing such piano-optimized sounds from LinnStrument, you'll notice some limitations: 1) They don't respond to LinnStrument's finger pressure to control the note volume from silence to full. Why? Most synthesizers respond to a single MIDI channel, so this provides the best compatibility with the preset sounds of these one-channel synthesizers, which are intended to be played from a conventional MIDI piano keyboard. By default, LinnStrument sends its MIDI data over a single MIDI channel (channel 1) and with a Bend Range of 2 semitones. LinnStrument sends standard MIDI messages and therefore works with every MIDI sound generator in existence, so in a sense every MIDI sound generator is recommended. 2/16/2024 0 Comments Galeazzi fracture radiopaediaMonteggia sounds close to mountain and since a mountain is high up, Monteggia is more proximal (higher) than Galeazzi. Glasgow Rangers: Galeazzi / radial fracture Two British football (soccer) teams, with devoted followings: type III: chronic injury with proximal migration of the radial head. GRUesome MURder assists remembering which bone is firstly fractured and then secondly which is dislocated: Galeazzi involves fracture of the radius with distal radioulnar dislocation Epidemiology Galeazzi fractures are primarily encountered in. Monteggia involves fracture of the ulna with proximal radial dislocation Galeazzi fracture-dislocations consist of a fracture of the distal part of the radius with disruption of the distal radioulnar joint. GRIMUS helps to remember which forearm bone is fractured and whether the distal ("inferior") or proximal ("superior") part of the other forearm bone is dislocated. Essex-Lopresti starts with E for elbow indicating that it involves the radial head or neck wheras Galeazzi involves the radial diaphysis. Galeazzi and Essex-Lopresti fractures are the inverse both involve the radius with dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint. Typically, the mechanism of injury is forceful axial loading and torsion of the forearm. It is useful to note that it is the head of the non-fractured bone that is dislocated.Īn alternative to the various mnemonics is the following simple rule set for eponymous fracture-dislocations of the forearm: Galeazzi fracture is a fracture of the radial diaphysis with disruption at the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). But oddly enough, wet fingers is not a problem, just soapy ones. I tell ya one thing, if you were using a Merkur Futur, you wouldn't want to have your fingers covered in soap, thats a recipe for disaster that is. Your rating is pretty good considering! No wonder you were having such a fun time, you had a Gillette Silver Blue in there! HEHE And if you share two thumbs you, you surely can't go wrong. So lend it your ears, and it will sing you a tune, a pleasant sound of whisker reduction. When you hear the sound of a razor cutting whiskers, I call that the razor is singing. Its good that this is to be considered a smooth shaving razor, thats always a plus in my book! Strangely I have 2 styles of barberpole handles from Razorock. In fact I’d like to pick up a couple more barber pole handles for other razor heads. But yes a heavier handle has done wonders for some razors. But I also really like the older radio knob handle about as well. And I am glad that you were able to pick the razor up and use it, without having to worry about angle of attack too much. I prefer a heavy razor and love the feel of the barber pole handle on it. There are a lot of people who also like that razor, and there are even folks buying that razor right now, and waiting for it to arrive at their door. Thank you for your review of your Razorock Gamechanger. Even with my fingers covered in lather from testing how easy or hard it is to clog up, it still couldn't have slipped out of my grip. And the weight is just right.īTW, This handle is fantastic. I think I could go with more blade feel and still be happy so I might be looking for an OC or jump to the 95 that everyone is testing.īTW, This handle is fantastic. So if anyone is thinking of buying one of these I will give it a 2 thumbs up! A fine razor. It never clogged and I even pushed it in that area. Smoothness was a 10 but the proper blade makes a lot of difference in that.īTW, I was using a new Gillette silver/blue. I will give this an 8 or 9 overall rating. That is a plus in my book as some razors now have such a small window of cutting degree that it's easy to get out of the proper angle. I didn't have any issue finding the proper angle and the angle is NOT a fine line. Not many DE razors give this much audible feedback without losing a level of comfort when I'm on my third or fourth pass. On my third pass, I could still hear it cutting whiskers loudly. This made for a very small amount of blade feel if any. I think this has to do with the blade exposure being very little but having a somewhat big blade gap. I can't compare it to a Gillette as the "feel" is much different but in smoothness, it's comparable to a Schick G model. Today's shave with the GC 84 went very well.Īs far as aggressiveness I feel I have to put it about the same as the Krave razor with a D plate. I know this has been done before but I wanted to give my opinion in case someone was thinking of buying one. 2/16/2024 0 Comments Nimble storage star warsMany investors just don't like having to bet so much on the come. Personally, I think investing in companies with disruptive technologies tends to be a fraught experience at best. As readers will see shortly, flash came along a few years ago and many of the original companies in the space flamed out and were acquired in deals that proved to be very disappointing. Then there were the companies in the deduplication space and those that pioneered scale-out NAS architectures. After that myth got shattered, NTAP was the poster child in the storage space for a while and achieved rapid and profitable growth for many years with a valuation to match. At one point, at the dawn of the internet, EMC was one of the so-called four horsemen companies and was priced as though it would never face competition. Going back many years, there has never been a low-risk way of investing in the enterprise storage space. It may have entered the lists for AFA just in time and its latest forecasts call for growth to re-accelerate. For some years, its focus was on a hybrid flash product which is probably on the road to obsolescence. It entered the market for what are called all-flash arrays ( AFAs) just a few months ago and its growth trajectory is certainly less well-established than that of its larger rival. The company, at least thus far, has shown a less distinct path to profitability although there are signs of improvement in the last couple of quarters. Nimble share valuation is significantly cheaper than Pure and there are many reasons for that. It would appear to have developed a positive culture with regard to customer engagement that is not seen on the part of most other industry vendors - NTAP had but later lost that distinction some years past. It has made the leadership quadrant of all of the MQ surveys that get published and of equal significance it has achieved a remarkable score in terms of user satisfaction that was remarked on by IDC in its latest survey as being unprecedented. It has shown signs of a real path to profitability and its market share gains are stunning. While high-growth companies can readily hit murderous speed bumps, at this point, I think the odds favor Pure's ultimate success. I think as a company and as an investment, Pure is easier to understand. Nimble and Pure have some similarities and differences. Spinning discs are on a course to sunset in the next few years and the market will be more transformed by that time than has been the case since NetApp ( NTAP) came into the market in the 1990's with network attached storage ( NAS ) but this is a far more basic transition than that ever proved to be. Flash marks a transformation of the same magnitude that spinning disc represented when it replaced tape at the start of my business career. Spinning discs are a mechanical product that has the limitations and constraints inherent in all mechanical products. I first got into the IT business working for IBM right after the dawn of spinning discs. When I originally composed this sentence, I wanted to say that flash is the hottest trend in storage since the last one. And so while the article is a bit long, readers get to learn about two companies for the price of a single read.) The lead in is the title for a song in the Irving Berlin hit of 1946 called 'Annie Get Your Gun' which was one of the showstoppers of that very successful musical. But many investors seem to consider them in the same context and so I think it makes sense to include them in the same article. It appears that over time that they will become competitive but that is not quite the case these days. (At this point Nimble and Pure are really only competitors in that they both provide flash storage products. They were both formed about a decade ago to provide flash storage arrays in competition not just with each other but almost every storage vendor who has ever walked the earth. Pure Storage ( NYSE: PSTG) and Nimble Storage ( NYSE: NMBL) are the current enfant terribles of the enterprise storage business. Two of the six national priorities identified by the Commission’s Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP) are eliminating barriers in recruitment and hiring and preventing systemic harassment. The EEOC is pleased that Birmingham Beverage will hire a Title VII coordinator to ensure compliance with the decree so that this type of discrimination can be avoided in the future.” Marsha Rucker, regional attorney of the EEOC’s Birmingham District Office, added, “This consent decree provides relief to African American employees who were denied their right to equal employment opportunities.
